mood: curious
music: usher- confessions
okay kids, $5 goes to the first person to make usher's lyrics make sense. we will examine two cases today. the first is the song "confessions pt 2" wherein our boy gets his mistress pregnant and has to tell his girlfriend. here we go:
take these first lyrics:
every time i was in l.a. i was with my ex girlfriend
everytime you called, i told you "baby, i'm workin"
i was out doin my dirt
wasn't thinkin bout you gettin hurt...
but then later on he says:
this is by far the hardest thing i've ever done
to have to tell you, the woman i love
that i'm havin a baby by a woman i barely even know...
wait a minute, i thought he said he was with his ex girlfriend?
case 2. "burn"
it's gonna burn for me to say this
it's coming from my heart
it's been a long time comin
but we done been fell apart
i really wanna work this out
but i don't think you're gonna change
i do, but you dont, think it's best we go our separate ways
tell me why i should stay in this relationship
when i'm hurtin baby
i ain't happy baby
plus, there's so many other things i gotta do and
i think that you should let it burn...
so this song is all about telling the girl that they have to break up even though she doesn't want to, right? so then why does he say:
she's been gone for too long
it's been 50-leven days
umpteen hours
i'ma be burnin till you return...
right. so there you are. ahem.
dear usher,
in the future, BEFORE you release a cd, it would behoove you to proofread your lyrics with special regard to conherence. i know that you are hot and/or sexy and extremely wealthy, but (contrary to popular belief) this in fact does NOT excuse you from adhering to the existing rules of grammatical format.
thank you.
sincerely,
taria
